I have a decent amount of pictures to put in after certain steps! I will try to explain it the best I can! This staff took me about three months to create, mainly because of school and life in general getting in the way. The base is made of wood I purchased from Home Depot and is about an inch, or an inch and a half in diameter. I believe I purchased six feet of wood and used almost all of it. The staff itself is composed of five pieces. The main part, which is the longest is about five feet and two inches. The left over wood is used to make the crook. I cut the wood at angles and used a combination of wood glue and screws to keep it together. I then took pieces of newspaper and chopped them up into strips that are about four inches in length and half an inch in width. I caked the newspaper strips in paper mache glue, twisted them, and wrapped them around the wooden base. This part is what took so long, but the texture the twisted paper mache made is perfect and looks incredible. This staff is taller than me and I had to cover the whole thing so you can see why it was so time consuming. Here is the staff in the middle of being covered in paper mache. Sorry for the poor quality, it was taken on my phone.
Now this is where it gets easy! I just took it outside, after all the glue dried, and spray painted it a dark chocolate brown color. However I picked up the wrong type and therefore took many more coats than necessary to turn it brown.
Then I covered it in a coat of clear non shiny sealer. After that I took a silver paint, and mixed a tiny bit of white into the silver and brushed it over the parts that where supposed to be frosty! It was a lot easier for me to make the frost fade than I though it would!
Then I took a very bright blue, and in the deeper crevices of the texture on my staff to give it the magic that can be seen running through it! Then you put a final coat of sealer on it and voila! You have a Jack Frost Staff! I hope this is helpful!
